January 2002 This is an update of the general procurement notice for this
project published on the EBRDs web site on 4 April 2002. The City of Tashkent
has received a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development
(EBRD) in support of a program of investments to rehabilitate the municipal
solid waste management system in Tashkent. The project, which is in its final
stage, still requires the procurement of the following: Municipal service
vehicles, equipment and spare parts; Vehicles and bins for bio-medical waste
collection and removal services; Franchise to the private sector for municipal
solid waste management services in two districts (approx. 471,000 inh.) of
Tashkent. Open tendering for the above services and goods will be completed in
the year 2003. Contracts to be financed with the proceeds of the loan from the
EBRD will be subject to its Procurement Policies and Rules and will be open to
firms from any country. The loan proceeds will not be used for the purpose of
any payment to persons or entities, or for any import of goods, if such payment
or import is prohibited by a decision of the United Nations Security Council
taken under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter or under a law of official
