Gazprom trgets the Shelfs

Gazprom trgets the Shelfs

Gazprom has more gas than any other gas company in the world, with about 17% of the world’s proven gas reserves, and over 60% of Russia’s reserves.

Gazprom Group’s proven gas reserves are estimated at around 29,1 trillion m3. The Company audits its new gas fields every year, and adjusts the volumes and estimated value of the fields audited earlier. In doing so, it takes account of reserve dynamics: cumulative production and additions to reserves, as well as any changes in production costs, taxes, and gas prices.

In all, 95% of Gazprom’s demonstrated reserves of natural gas, some 90% of condensate and about 90% of oil (excluding Sibneft) have been independently audited according to international standards. Gazprom’s hydrocarbon reserves are currently estimated at USD 138,6 billion. In 2005, for the first time in the history of this joint-stock company, the additions to Gazprom’s gas reserves, amounting to 583,4 billion m3, substantially exceeded its output.

The major goal of Gazprom’s mineral exploration is to make commercial hydrocarbon reserves available for production in gas-producing areas, as well as to prepare the raw-material base in promising regions.

Up to 2010, the principal exploration targets will be the West Siberian, Timan-Pechora, and Caspian regions. Exploration will intensify in the Ob and Taz gulfs of the Kara Sea, as well as on the Pechora Sea shelf. Furthermore, increasing amounts of exploration will be conducted in the East Siberian and Far Eastern regions.

In 2011–2020, the main mineral exploration targets will be the shelf of the Arctic seas and the Sea of Okhotsk, Krasnoyarsk Territory, Irkutsk region, SakhaaYakutia, and the Sakhalin shelf.

In the long term, priority will continue to be given to the Arctic regions of West Siberia, East Siberia, and the shelf of the Arctic seas. In addition, it is planned to initiate mineral exploration in new, so far uninvestigated regions of the Siberian and Far Eastern federal districts (northern Evenkia, Sakha-Yakutiya, the Chukchi Peninsula, Kamchatka, etc.).

In 2005, the targets of the Program for the Development of the Mineral Resource Base of the Gas Industry up to 2030 were refined. Implementation of the program from 2002 to 2030 is to increase the gas reserves by 23.5 trillion m3, and the condensate and oil reserves by 3,4 billion
