A PROGRAM FOR ASPIRING YOUNG LEADERS IN HEALTHCARE, EDUCATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

A PROGRAM FOR ASPIRING YOUNG LEADERS IN HEALTHCARE, EDUCATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Prague and Bratislava (November 11, 2008).  The American Fund for Czech and Slovak Leadership Studies offers financing of short-term executive training programs to young Czech and Slovak leaders in the areas of healthcare, education, and environmental protection.

Applicants develop their own tailor-made program by combining executive training at top universities and a professional internship in leading organizations in the United States.  They could use their own contacts or Fund partners in the United States.  The Fund covers the full cost of the program.

Applicants must have at least five years of professional experience in the field, must have a minimum BA university degree, be fluent in English, must be supported by their employer, and recognized by their peers for accomplishments in their profession.

The program must be completed within a period of six months in the United States.  The applicants and their U.S. host institution will determine specific arrangements within this time period.

The American Fund will cooperate with the Czech and Slovak Fulbright Commissions to ensure open competition, academic and professional excellence, and an impeccable ethical code of conduct.

The deadline for submission of 2009 applications is March 31, 2009

Jointly with the Czech and Slovak Fulbright Commissions, program applications will be screened and the selected applicants will be invited for interviews in April 2009.  The best two or three applicants will be selected from all submitted applications. The first participants are expected to start the program in the United States by July 2009.

The American Fund for Czech and Slovak Leadership Studies is a successor to the American Fund for Czechoslovak Relief incorporated in 1990 as a successor to the American Fund for Czechoslovak Refugees founded in 1948.  The Fund helped thousands of Czechs and Slovaks escape communism and settle in the United States.  The founders included Dr. Jan Papanek, Czechoslovak Ambassador to the United Nations, Andrew Valuchek, a publisher of Czech and Slovak newspapers in New York, and other brave and accomplished personalities that refused to accept communist rule and continued their fight against it from the United States.
