European scrap body launches shredder group
LONDON - The European Ferrous Recovery and Recycling Federation (EFR) said on Wednesday it had created a European Shredder group, which will represent operators in implementing the directive on end-of-life-vehicles (ELVs).
The shredder group is being chaired by Anthony Bird of SimsMetal UK, and will consider issues relating to shredder operation and collect data on operating costs, legislation and new technology.
Its scope will not be restricted to ELVs, but will also encompass any kind of feedstock material for shredders and separation plants.
The ELV Directive was adopted in September and has to be implemented by European Union member states by April 2002. It aims at the environmentally sound disposal of ELVs, with imposed recovery targets.
