BRUSSELS - Belgium\'s Solvay said yesterday it had started recycling polyvinylchloride (PVC) from waste plastic material at its Italian plant.
Solvay starts operating PVC recycling plant
The Ferrara-based unit is operated by Vinyloop Ferrara Spa, a joint venture of SolVin Italia (of which Solvay owns 75 percent), Adriaplast, Tecnometal and Vulcaflex.
The plant will be able to regenerate PVC from at least 10,000 tonnes a year of waste plastic material, Solvay said. The unit cost 10.6 million euros but Solvay said it will \"quickly reach breakeven\".
Waste insulating material from cables is often a mixture of PVC, rubber and polyethylene.
