Odpady a Korea

Odpady a Korea
Waste Waste treatment technology capability in Korea is only about 30 - 40% of those advanced countries, especially in recycling technology and hazardous waste treatment technology. With the government?s promotion of recycling, this environment technology sector is likely to grow. Recycling rates fell with the economic recovery. According to 1999 MoEN statistics, 47.6 percent of 22.72 million used tyres were recycled, down 18.5 percent from the 66.1 percent in 1998. For used oil, the recycling rate amounted to 54.5 percent out of a total 165,760 tons. The recycling rate of metal cans also dropped to 64 percent in 1999 from 68.3 percent in 1998. Industrial waste output decreased in 1998 following the IMF crises, however, with the recovery of the economy, waste output is on the rise again. The disposal of waste in landfills is gradually decreasing due to the steady increase of recycling and incineration facilities. However, it is still higher than in advanced countries, as much as double the rate. There are 442 landfill sites in total in Korea, and 334 of them will close down within five years. Incineration facility industry - estimated market size Year 2000 2005 2010 Market size (US$) 292 million 458 million 667 million (Source: AEA Technologies) There are about 14 Korean companies who have technology to build incineration facilities including Samsung Corporation, SK Construction, Daewoo, Dongbu Construction, Hyundai Industrial Development and LG Construction. Food waste accounts for 30% of total domestic waste. The government is planning to recycle more than 50% of food waste by 2002 and there are also plans for the construction of a 4,600 tons/day resource facility. The government has also announced that it will establish about 43 food waste treatment facilities by 2002, investing US$89million. Estimated market size for food waste resources Year 2000 2001-2005 2006-10 Market size (US$) 32 million 125 million 125 million % of recycling 40 55 70 As landfill space can only decrease, Korea will likely increase research into bio-technology related to solid and food waste.
