60% of Female Shoppers Bring Own Shopping Bags
Ishare Inc., a Japanese net-media company, conducted an Internet survey on
ecological awareness between May 12 and 14, 2008, focusing male and female users
of its Web service in their 20s through 40s, receiving 586 responses. The survey
showed that those who answered "bring their own shopping bags when shopping"
accounted for 46.9 percent of respondents (34.5 percent of men, 60.3 percent of
women). Classified by age bracket, 50.5 percent of such respondents were in
their 20s, 45.2 percent were in their 30s and 48.1 percent were in their 40s.

About 90 percent of male or female respondents in all targeted age brackets said that they decline plastic shopping bags when buying small things like a canned coffee drink at convenience stores.
In response to the question "Are you interested in ecological problems and energy conservation?", 66.4 percent of respondents (62.8 percent of men, 70.2 percent of women) answered yes, thus reflecting the higher interest of women in these issues. Broken down by age bracket, the percentage of respondents who agreed, slightly increases with age: 61.5 percent were in their 20s, 64.4 percent were in their 30s and 69.5 percent were in their 40s.
