MEKONG DELTA WATER RESOURCES PROJECT GENERAL PROCUREMENT NOTICE Country: Viet Nam Sector: Agriculture Development Business Print Edition, Issue Number: 582 Issue Date: 16 May 2002 Loan/Credit Number: Credit No. 3198-VN Deadline: not specified The Government of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam has received a credit from the International Development Association in the amount of US$ 101.8 million equivalent toward the cost of the Mekong Delta Water Resources Project, and it intends to apply the proceeds of this credit to payments for goods, works, related services, and consulting services to be procured under this project. The project will include the following components. Component 1: Improvement of Water Resources Infrastructure (US$ 131.6 million): The project covers five subproject areas with a total area of 535,000 ha. Each area is an independent hydraulic unit. An in important objective of the subprojects in the lower Delta is to exclude salinity intrusion by building sluice gates on waterways entering the agricultural areas. This will create a fresh water environmental that will allow crops to be grown in the dry season. In all of the subprojects, existing main, primary and secondary canals will be improved to provide for more rapid and effective drainage. Some new secondaries will be built to enhance water delivery, and tertiaries will be built where necessary. Existing embankments that protect land from high flood levels will be extended and upgraded, to also carry rural roads. Component 2: Improvement of Rural Water Supply/Sanitation (US$ 5.7 million) Component 3: Institutional Support for Water Management and Project Implementation (US$ 10.3 million) Procurement of contracts financed by the credit will be conducted through the procedures specified in the World Bank’s Guidelines: Procurement under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits, and is open to all bidders from eligible source countries as defined in the guidelines. Consulting services will be selected in accordance with the World Bank’s Guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultants by World Bank Borrowers, January 1997. Specific procurement notices for contracts to be bid under the World Bank’s international competitive bidding procedures and for large-value consultants’ contracts will be announced, as they become available, in UN Development Business and the local newspapers such as Vietnam News.
