Deadline: not specified The Republic of Yemen has received a credit in the
amount of US$ 25 million from the International Development Association (IDA)
toward the cost of the Sana’a Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project, and it
intends to apply the credit proceeds to payments for goods, works, related
services and consulting services to be procured under this project. The project
includes the following components: Water Supply. This component would provide a
minimum service level including the construction and rehabilitation of Rural
Water Supply and Sanitation systems consisting of a range of technologies, i.e.
hand dug wells and hand pumps, spring protection and gravity supply, rain water
catchments, piped schemes from boreholes equipped with either diesel or
electrical pumps. Environmental Sanitation. The sanitation component would
include the construction of demonstrations latrines at village centers, block
latrines for schools and health centers. Hygiene education would be provided by
Social Mobilization Teams through training of community based hygiene
specialists and teachers, and by helping design simple hygiene education
programs for schools. Institutional Strengthening, Project Management, Studies
and Training. This component would include: (i) equipment and running costs,
technical support, and training at central/governorate/community levels; (ii)
technical assistance, sector review and studies to formulate a rural water
supply and sanitation sector strategy, as well as training to support
decentralized rural water supply and sanitation units at governorate levels.
Procurement of contracts financed by the credit will be conducted through the
procedures as specified in the World Bank’s Guidelines: Procurement under IBRD
Loans and IDA Credits, January 1995 (revised January and August 1996, September
1997, and January 1999), and is open to all bidders from eligible source
countries as defined in the guidelines. Consulting services will be selected in
accordance with the World Bank’s Guidelines: Selection and Employment of
Consultants by World Bank Borrowers, January 1997 (revised September 1997 and
January 1999). Specific procurement notices for contracts to be bid under the
World Bank’s international competitive bidding (ICB) procedures and for
large-value consultants’ contracts will be announced, as they become available,
in UN Development Business. Interested eligible bidders who wish to be included

interested consultants who wish to receive a copy of the advertisement
requesting expressions of interest for large-value consultants’ contracts, or
