This invitation for prequalification follows the general procurement notice for this project that appeared in UN Development Business No. 582 of 16 May 2002. The Peoples Republic of China has received a loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development IBRD and a credit from the International Development Association (IDA) toward the cost of the Guangxi Urban Environment Project, and it intends to apply part of the loan and credit proceeds to payments under the Contract for Phase 1 of Jiangnan Wastewater Treatment Plant (Contract No. NMT/1.0). The scope of contract includes construction of all civil works, supply and installation of mechanical and electrical equipment, testing and pre-acceptance commissioning. Jiangnan Wastewater Treatment Plant is a Subproject under the Chaoyang Stream Comprehensive Environmental Pollution Control component of Guangxi Urban Environment Project. Instrimpex International Tendering Company, acting on behalf of the employer, Nanning Sewerage Company now intends to prequalify suitably qualified and experienced contractors and/or firms for Phase 1 of Jiangnan Wastewater Treatment Plant (Contract No. NMT/1.0) The proposed Jiangnan Wastewater Treatment Plant is situated near Cai-ni-tang close to the southern bank of the Yongjiang River within the City of Nanning. At Phase 1 the designed treatment capacity is 240,000 mł/d, the treatment process is the activated sludge inverted A/A/O process. Sludge treatment will be gravity thickening, dewatering and disposal off site. The ultimate capacity would be 960,000 mł/d. The advanced site works are currently in progress under a separate contract and comprise bulk earthworks filling. A further contract for the construction of a perimeter surface water storm flow culvert is anticipated to be completed before June 2004. It is anticipated that bids will be invited during November 2003. The contract for Phase 1 of Jiangnan WWTP will be completed within 20 months. Commissioning covers all the facilities and is expected to be lasting for six months. Prequalification will be conducted through prequalification procedures specified in the World Bank’s Guidelines: Procurement under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits, and is open to all bidders from eligible source countries, as defined in the guidelines. Interested eligible bidders may obtain further information from and inspect the prequalification documents at Instrimpex International Tendering Company at the first address below, from 0900 to 1600 hour from 30 June 2003 (except Saturday, Sunday and holidays). A complete set of prequalification documents in English may be purchased by interested bidders on the submission of a written application and upon payment of a non-refundable fee of RMB 200 or US$ 30 (VAT not included). The method of payment will be cash or bank check. If purchasing by mail, an additional RMB 100 for applications within China or US$ 50 for applications from abroad, is required for postage costs.
