Swiss firm wins Senegal deal to recycle rubbish
DAKAR, Nov 30 (Reuters) - A Swiss company has won a contract to recycle rubbish collected from the streets of the Senegalese capital Dakar, an official at the West African countrys environment and nature ministry said on Thursday.
Alcyon-SA won a contract to produce fertiliser and compost from some 390,000 tonnes of household waste collected annually in Dakar.
"A provisional contract has been signed between the Swiss (company) and Senegal to make use of rubbish collected in the capital," the official said, adding that Alcyon was due to begin its activities in Dakar in January.
French media and utilities group Vivendi and Canadian energy products group Dessau-Soprin bid unsuccessfully for the contract, the official said.
