Ohio Chemical Plant Explodes; 3,000 Evacuated
CHICAGO - A tank at an Ohio chemical plant exploded on Sunday, blowing off the roof and forcing 3,000 people within a one-mile radius to be evacuated, police said.
Officials in Miami Township, Ohio, fear that a second tank could blow, said Maj. John DiPietro, deputy police chief for the area.
The tank that exploded may have contained nitric oxide, a highly reactive gas, he said. The plant is owned by Isotec, a chemical processing company.
At least two firefighters sustained minor injuries, DiPietro said.
