This invitation for prequalification follows the general procurement notice for this project that appeared in UN Development Business No. 642 of 16 November 2004 -- published online on 14 October 2004 (see WB2542-642/04) and in dgMarket.
The Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works (MMPW) has received a grant from the World Bank Iraq Trust Fund toward the cost of upgrading the Water Supply System in Al-Hussainiya and Al-Zahraa Cities and the surrounding villages, Baghdad Governorate, and it intends to apply part of the proceeds of this grant to payments under the contract for the supply and installation of Distribution Network and Elevated Tanks for Al-Hussainiya City, Al-Zahraa City and Al-Shaoora, Redania, Sayed Mutar and the Farmers Villages.
MMPW intends to prequalify contractors and/or firms for the supply and installation of a Water Distribution Network of an approximate total length of 120 km of different pipe diameters ranging from 110 mm to 500 mm with a number of reinforced concrete chambers to accommodate stop valves, air valves and washouts. House connections shall include tapping collars, ferrules and pipes extending up to the road edge. Pipe material will be PVC and Ductile Iron, for smaller (up to 225 mm) and bigger diameters respectively. The contract comprises as well two elevated bolted steel panels tank of an approximate height of 20 m and a capacity of 500 m3. The purpose of this project is to provide drinking water for the area of Al-Hussainiya City, Al-Zahraa City and Al-Shaoora, Redania, Sayed Mutar and the Farmers Village having an approximate total population of 80,500 capita and urban area of around 600 ha. Water will be provided from a treatment plant of a capacity of 1,000 m3/hr to be located near Al-Shaoora Village (treatment plant doesn’t form part of this contract). It is expected that invitations for bid will be made in May 2006.
Prequalification will be conducted through prequalification procedures specified in the World Bank’s guidelines and is open to all bidders from eligible source countries as defined in the guidelines.
Interested eligible applicants may obtain further information from and inspect the prequalification document at the Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works (MMPW) (address below) from 0800 to 1600 hours. A complete set of the prequalification document in English may be purchased by interested applicants on the submission of a written application to the address below and upon payment of a nonrefundable fee of US$ 50. The method of payment will be cash or certified check issued to the Strategic Management Office of the Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works. The document will be sent by courier, can be collected in person at the address shown below, or will be sent by electronic mail upon request.
Applications for prequalification should be submitted in sealed envelopes, delivered to the address below by 17 April 2006, and be clearly marked "Application to Prequalify for Supply and Installation of Distribution Network and Elevated Tank forAl-Hussainiya City and the Villages of Al-Shaoora, Redania and Sayed Muttar."
