Moldavia - Mineral resources
Moldova did not possess significant mineral resources. More than 100 deposits of
gypsum, limestone, sand, and stone were exploited. Production totals for 2000
were: gypsum, 32,100 tons (18,500 in 1999); sand and gravel, 277,000 cu m
(346,700 in 1997); lime, 31,000 tons (19,900 in 1996); and cement, 222,000 tons
(50,000 in 1999, and 121,800 in 1997). Moldova also produced crude steel, peat,
oil, and natural gas.
