Geological Museum of Hungary

The building - designed by the famous architect Ödön LECHNER, an original pioneer of the Secession style - was built in 1899. A registered monument, visited in all seasons by many fans of art history viewing its exceptional features.

The royal decree founding the Geological Institute was issued in 1869. It was founded to map all the country, to perform geological research for the Hungarian State, its economy and its science, with the help of the Hungarian Geological Society. (The third of such societies at that time, the middle of the nineteenth century.)

Its library and collections are largest in this field of science in Hungary.
