12 Blue Flags will wave in Latvia´s beaches this year
On 15th March, within the framework of the bathing season opening event, the handing ceremony of the Blue Flags took place in the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development. This year the Blue Flags will wave in the beaches of Liepaja (Beach at the stadium), Ventspils (city beach), Jurmala (Jaunkemeri and Dzintari beach), Riga (Vakarbullu beach), Engure (Abragciems camping beach), Kuldiga ("Martinsala" beach), Jekabpils (Radžu reservoir beach), Daugavpils (Stropu lake beach and "Stropu wave beach") as well as in the marinas of Liepaja and Pavilosta. The representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, the members of the Blue Flag National jury and the representatives of local governments and marinas took part in the ceremony. The Blue Flag program is one of five global programs of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE International). Applicants for the Blue Flags were evaluated using 29 criteria in the area of water quality, environmental management, environmental education and information, safety and services.
