The deep water area of offshore Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean covers more than 50,000 sq. km. The region offers a great variety of unexplored hydrocarbon plays, including; the Cyprus Arc, the Levantine Basin, the Eratosthenes Continental Block, the West Eratosthenes Basin, the Herodotus Basin, the low-stand Messinian Nile Delta and the Plio-Pleistocene Deep Nile Delta Fan.

In 2006, and in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism of the Republic of Cyprus, PGS acquired, processed and interpreted a large, regional 2D, seismic survey over offshore Cyprus. This survey (MC2D-CYP2006) includes approximately 6,770 line km of data and provides a regional grid of 10 km by 20 km to give a good understanding of the geology in the area. This data formed the basis for the first Cypriot license round in 2007.

Close cooperation with the Cypriot Ministry and our strong belief in the region has led to an extensive MC program in the area. In 2007 the first 3D seismic survey was acquired offshore Cyprus (MC3D-CYP2007). The survey has 660 sq.km´s of 3D seismic in Cyprus and covers large Cyprus-Arc deformation folds. Several sub-salt four-way dip closure leads have been identified on the high quality pre-stack time migrated data. Direct hydrocarbon indicators associated with large anticlines are apparent, and there are indications that several petroleum systems are active in the region.
