Exploration in the North Aegean Sea began in the early 1970´s. The Prinos North structure was first identified as a potential exploration opportunity in 1976, when the drilling of the Prinos 4 (PN-4) delineation well encountered small quantities of oil to the north of the Prinos field. In 1993, 3Dseismic survey was carried out over the area confirming a separate structure to the north of the main Prinos field.

Prinos North 2 (PN-2) was drilled as a vertical well in 1994 and found oil to be present at two stratigraphic levels within the Prinos Group at depths of 2,125 and 2,325 mss. The upper oil bearing interval was tested and produced up to 3,000 bopd of 21°API sulphurous oil.

Today Aegean Energy hydrocarbon exploration is performed by experienced geologist and geophysicists using the latest technologies in the search for hydrocarbon deposits focus on increasing production and seeking to expand our resources.

Aegean Energy oil and Gas Exploration & Production activities are focus with a portfolio of assets located in the Kavala-Prinos Basin, Greece, that comprise a producing oil field (Prinos), a producing gas field ( South Kavala), a suspended oil field (Prinos North) and an undeveloped oil field (Epsilon).

In 2009 - 2010 Aegean Energy is developing Prinos, Prinos North and Epsilon field according to the drilling programme of the company.
