2003 This invitation for bids follows the general procurement notice for this
project that appeared in UN Development Business No. 570 of 16 November 2001.
The Government of Mozambique (GOM) has received a credit from the International
Development Association (IDA) toward the cost the Second National Water
Development Project, and intends to apply part of the credit proceeds to cover
eligible payments under the contract for alternative solutions for water source
problems of the Beira Water Supply System Phase 1 - Emergency Solution
(FIPAG/W-22/02). The Fundo de Investimento e Património do Abastecimento de Água
(FIPAG) as the implementing agency of the Government of Mozambique now invites
sealed bids from eligible bidders for the following works: River intake with
capacity of 64,200 mł/day, with associated control buildings located adjacent to
the river Pungue. The intake to include all necessary pumps, control and
electrical equipment, civil works and building services. Access road of
approximately 6.9 km in length, connecting the river intake to the nearest
highway, namely EN6. Transmission main laying of approximately 10.9 km in length
of 900 mm diameter Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) pipe and approximately 0.5 km
of 900 mm diameter steel pipe with associated valves and washouts. Approximately
6 km of the main laying will be located in grassland or agricultural land with
the remainder located adjacent to the highway. Distribution main laying,
approximately 3 km in length of 600 mm diameter GRP pipe with associated valves
and washouts. The main will be laid in the highway. Discharge control structure,
located adjacent to the highway and the existing raw water supply canal
structure. Provision of permanent electricity supply with emergency standby.
Bidding will be conducted through the international competitive bidding
procedures specified in the World Bank’s Guidelines: Procurement under IBRD
Loans and IDA Credits, January 1995 (revised January and August 1996, September
1997 and January 1999), and is open to all bidders from eligible source
countries as defined in the guidelines. Interested eligible bidders may obtain
further information from and inspect the bidding documents at the FIPAG at the
address below from 0900 to 1500 hours. A complete set of bidding documents in
English may be purchased by interested bidders on the submission of a written
application to the address below and upon payment of a non-refundable fee of US$
250, or its equivalent in a freely-convertible currency. The method of payment
will be cash or direct deposit into account No. 213 22 153, Banco Internacional
de Moçambique. Bidders will be responsible for collection of the documents. All
bids must be accompanied by a security amount of US$ 180,000 or its equivalent
in a convertible currency, and be delivered to the address below by 1100 hours
on 29 January 2003. Bids will be opened at 1130 hours on the same day, in the
presence of bidders who choose to attend, at the same address. Late bids will be
