Contract/Bid Number: Contract No. DIWIP/SKMD/1
Deadline: 30 April 2004
The Republic of Uzbekistan has obtained a loan in the amount of US$ 35 million from the World Bank and a credit of US$ 25 million from the International Development Association (IDA) for the Drainage, Irrigation and Wetlands Improvement Phase - 1 Project, and it intends to apply part of the proceeds toward payments under the contract for the construction of the South Karakalpakstan main drain (and associated environmental works). The total cost of the project is estimated around US$ 75 million. The Projects Implementation Unit for Water Infrastructure under the direction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources intends to pre-qualify contractors and/or firms for Contract No. DIWIP/SKMD/1.
The main objective of the works is to improve the disposal of agricultural drainage from around 100,000 ha of irrigation land in South Karakalpakstan on the right bank of Amu Darya, within the administrative districts of Beruni, Ellikala and Turtkul. The works would cover the remodeling and extending existing drainage channels totaling some 300 km in all. The main component is channel excavation (approximately 24.5 million mł of material), but the works also include replacement and reconstruction of associated hydraulic and access structures (involving some 12 000 mł of concrete works) together with landscaping and works for environmental protection.
It is expected that invitations to bid will be made in July 2004.
Prequalification will be conducted through the procedures as specified in the World Bank’s Guidelines: Procurement under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits, current edition, and is open to all eligible bidders as defined in the guidelines.
