Digital Cleanup Day 2022 engaged people in 124 countries to tackle climate change
On 19 March 2022 Digital Cleanup Day was held for the 3rd time. Individuals and communities all over the world checked their devices for unnecessary files and deleted them.
So far people from 124 different countries have registered their cleanups with the most participants from Taiwan, followed by the United States and Spain.
530,884 GB of data has been deleted. While 900,000,000 tons of CO2 are produced by internet and its supporting systems every year, this result will lead to diminishing around 133 tons of CO2 production per year and slowing down climate warming. The counting is still in progress.
Digital Cleanup Day was also introduced at EXPO 2020 Dubai where guests were challenged to delete pictures and videos, especially those taken during the event.
