DSM, Siemens launch paper waste-to-fuel venture
AMSTERDAM - Dutch chemicals group DSM NV said yesterday it and German technology group Siemens had signed an agreement to cooperate on plants that turn recycled paper waste into fuel.
DSM will provide the know-how and Siemens will promote, sell and build the plants, the Dutch group said in a statement.
The waste - mainly plastics and cellulose fibres - is produced in the paper recycling process and was usually discarded, DSM said in a statement.
But under technology developed by DSM and unlisted Dutch paper firm Kappa Roermond Papier BV, that waste can be turned into a high quality secondary fuel for use in cement kilns, coal-fired power plants and blast furnaces. No financial details of the new venture were released.
