River Waveney, Norfolk/Suffolk: This upstream stretch, where the water runs clear, hosts some wonderful wildlifeHaving lived in north Suffolk for almost five years, I've come to see the River Waveney as a beloved friend. It flows from its source near Redgrave to the sea at Great Yarmouth, winding through some of East Anglia's iconic landscapes, forming the boundary between Norfolk and Suffolk.This is my favourite spot, along the Angles Way near Brockdish. It is a bright day, the river sparkling. With sketchbook in hand, I feel my artistic senses heighten. The path leads me across a wooden bridge, where a grey wagtail flits among the limbs of a willow tree. It lands by the riverside and takes a drink, sending ripples across the green mirrored surface.
