On 27 March, Plenary is set to vote on the above draft report. The proposal includes new EU-wide rules targeting the ten single-use plastic products most often found on Europe's beaches and seas, as well as lost and abandoned fishing gear.
The proposed measures range from market restrictions (bans), consumption reduction targets, design requirements (caps and lids attached to the bottles from 2024), obligations for producers to help cover the costs of waste management and litter clean-up, awareness raising measures and collection targets as far as bottles are concerned (Member States will have to collect 90% of bottles by 2029). From 2030, single-use plastic beverage bottles will contain at least 30 % recycled plastic.
